LIGHTWEIGHT Reynolds 531 Dawes Galaxy racing bike - large (light steel road bicycle) (like Raleigh) in Cambridge, Gloucestershire for sale
This is a lovely Reynolds 531 steel frame racing bike, from the 1980s. Bikes made from 531 steel are always light, fast and super tough – hence why so many of these machines are still around today and are in good condition. Mechanically this bike is very impressive. The wheels run perfectly true and the Suntour drivetrain shifts gear really cleanly. The Weinmann brakes modulate really easily and are a particular highlight of the bike, in my view. This is all particularly impressive when you consider this bike is over 30 years old. It shows the sheer quality of the components and also how well they have been cared for over the years. The lack of wear on the components shows this bike has been used relatively little. I will include a frame pump (that fits this frame perfectly) in the sale for free. This is not shown in the photos. The one negative point to note is that the paint has started to degrade slightly in places on the frame. This is not even visible in many of the photographs and was difficult to take clear photos of (such is the degree to which it is not severe). Nevertheless it is for this reason that I am asking for less than £250 for a Reynolds 531 frame that has high-quality wheels, gearing and brakes, all of which are in excellent condition. The frame measures 25 inches making it relatively large. However bikes of this era use shorter seatposts and stems than modern bikes so 25 inches is not as huge as it might seem. I am 5’11” and this fits me well with the saddle relatively low. I expect anyone taller than 5’10” would be able to ride this comfortably.
